Two Uses Tuesday Link Up #1
Welcome to Two Uses Tuesday!
Two Uses Tuesday is your place to share all your upcycling and repurposing efforts. I have to say I am beyond excited to get this link up party going even if no one plays for a while. Between connecting with people that enjoy re-purposing and crafts like myself and forcing myself to make time to craft, it’s truly a win-win for me. Let’s get started!
By day I work in an office that has lots of people on the phone therefore lots of headsets and phones. Long story short, the company bought new headsets and my boss gave me the empty boxes figuring I could find something to do with them. That I will, that I will…
Cardboard Box to Postcard Up-cycle
Remember a time when you got mail that you enjoyed opening? No? Has it been that long? This week’s project let’s us create a delightful little piece of mail to brighten up someones mailbox.
Per the USPS website to qualify for postcard postage rates, a post card must be at least 3 1/2 inches high by 5 inches long and 0.007 inches thick. It may be no larger than 4 1/4 inches high by 6 inches wide and 0.016 thick.
Just think of all the cardboard you probably toss or recycle every month. Ahem, cereal boxes. Unfortunately, the cardboard I’m working with is just a tad too thick for postcard postage rates, but the end result is too stinking cute I don’t mind paying more.
- Measure out your postcard on the flattened box. (top left)
- Use a straight edge and razor/exacto knife or scissors to cut out your card. I used scissors. (top right)
- Make sure your cuts keep your card within the USPS post card guidelines. (middle left)
- Decorate the front of your card. Stamps, embellishments or whatever your heart desires. I opted for some scrap paper and stamps. (middle right)
- Adhered my scrap paper with a spray glue.
- Clean up the edges, if necessary. My cardboard was thicker which created ugly rough edges. I used washi tape to clean them up.
Sorry, about the small blurry photo =( It looked better when I put it together.
- Finished decorated the front with a simple stamp. I’m a simple crafter/scrapbooker.
- Add your address lines.
- Add a stamp square and a happy little message
- Ta-Da! Postcard!
Will you be up-cycling your old boxes into postcards? Maybe whip up some Christmas postcards this year instead of cards? You could save on some postage… Ok, now it’s your turn.
What have you been up-cycling and re-purposing?
